5 Ways to Stop Sabotaging Yourself
How to Let Yourself
Prosper
“Self-sabotage is saying we want something, but then going about and making sure it doesn’t happen.” -Unknown
So you say you want to lose those pesky last 10 lb. and become a healthier person, but….you find yourself continually buying unhealthy foods at the grocery store, making pit stops at your favorite fast food restaurants, or skipping workouts. Sound familiar? This is just one example of self-sabotage.
Self-sabotage is this internal tug-a-war between your conscious mind or (desires and goals to do something) vs. your subconscious mind or (beliefs, feelings like you can’t or shouldn’t do something). It can come in many forms such as doubt, negative self-talk, lack of belief in oneself, jealousy, or procrastination to name a few that can rob you from positive healthy relationships, careers, confidence, commitment, aspirations, and ever reaching your goals and becoming your best self.
Studies have found that more than 75% of our daily activities are regulated by our subconscious mind. Therefore, if you want to make lasting changes and work towards successfully reaching and accomplishing your goals, your conscious and subconscious minds have to agree with one another.
Here are 5 tips to help you overcome your self-sabotaging ways
and have you on your way to living your best life!
1. Pay attention to your behavior. Are you skipping workouts, missing deadlines, eating poorly, procrastinating? When you pay closer attention to your behavior you can more accurately identify self-sabotaging behavior.
2. Acknowledge your thoughts. Are your thoughts and beliefs in alignment with your goals? If not, try replacing your negative self-talk with something positive. For example, if you’re hearing “You’re never going to lose those last few pounds. You’ve never accomplished any goal you’ve ever set for yourself. You’re a failure.” Replace those thoughts with something like “I have learned from my past mistakes, so now I have what it takes to succeed. You got this!” If fear is creeping in, challenge that fear! Think if there was ever a time that you have overcome that same fear, but in a different situation? Or has someone you known had a similar situation or fear and how did they get through it? Practice affirmations, mantras, and visualization. The more you fill your mind with positive thoughts the quicker you can retrain your brain into believing these things are true. When this happens you will notice that you are happier and more confident in your ability to conquer anything life throws at you!
3. Set yourself up for success. Make a plan on how you are going to reach your goals. In addition, identify your triggers and figure out ways to overcome them-If x happens, then y will help you overcome it. For example, if you are wanting to lose 10 lb. how do you plan to do so? Who can help you stay accountable? Who are your biggest supporters that can keep you on track? What will you do if you stumble (because this will definitely happen)? The more prepared you are the greater the chance you have at succeeding!
4. Make a commitment to change. Remember you don’t have to change everything at once. Try focusing on one thing at a time. For example, if you want to lose weight, maybe start by cleaning up your diet. Instead of tossing everything out of your pantry like the food police is going to show up at any minute, start off slowly by simply replacing one unhealthy meal with a healthier one and build from there. Each success will give you more and more confidence that will be your driving force in tackling more goals to get you to where you want to go!
5. Be open to new opportunities and experiences. Don’t let fear, worry, or self-doubt hold you back and prevent you from living! When you learn to move through your fear with courage, belief in yourself and your own capabilities and self-determination, you will be amazed at what opportunities and experiences come a knockin’. The universe will deliver whatever you believe you deserve-so stay positive, stay open, and believe you deserve it!
Hope This Helps!
