8 Ways to Be More Social and Have Outrageously More Fun!
How To Get Out There And Show Em’ What You’ve Got!
So your social life’s been lacking lately… to put it mildly. Your weekend Netflix binges and social media surfing has grown old, but the thought of putting yourself out there sounds almost as bad as spending the weekend with your aunt Mary. Making new friends and socializing as an adult can be a scary, daunting task. Going up to someone and saying “Hey you wanna be friends? Or Let’s go hit up this yoga class down the road” will most likely put you in an awkward situation with some pretty weird looks. After all, it’s not elementary school anymore!
Listen life gets busy, friends move, you move, self-doubt creeps in, keeping you in your yoga pants after work, and before you know it, you quickly find yourself lonely and lacking fun!
Part of living a confident life is being able to put yourself out there, soaking in all that life has to offer.
After all, life is too amazing to be sitting on the sidelines.
Below are 8 tips to help get you well on your way to having an exciting and rewarding social life and outrageously more fun while you’re at it!
- Embrace your awesomeness! Each and everyone of us possesses our own unique gifts and talents. Part of being able to put yourself out into the world confidently depends heavily on how much you are willing to accept and embrace who you are.
- Get out of your own head. When you spot fear creeping into your head, put the kibosh on it. Take action by coming up with a plan, if this happens, then I’ll do that (if, then planning). The key is to just keep moving. When you take action on the things you fear the most, your confidence soars. When you feel confident people sense that. You will begin attracting more positive, happy individuals into your life!
- Stop negative thinking. The way you see yourself is the way you will behave. Your mind is powerful! If you see yourself as an introvert, antisocial, timid or even shy, guess what? That’s how you’ll come across to others. Pay attention to your thoughts. As you become more aware of how you talk to yourself, the more opportunities you’ll have to make positive changes. When you notice yourself saying things like “Why even try, I’ve got nothing on these women I want to start hanging out with” try to think of the positive instead. What are your strengths? We all have positive qualities that others will find attractive and fun to be around!
- Be positive! No one likes to be around complainers or Debbie downers. Find the positives and be upbeat and happy.
- Work with watcha got! If getting outside of your comfort zone is uncomfortable, work with watcha got! Co-workers, gym buddies, conferences you have to attend for work, etc., are great opportunities to make plans and connect with people you already know and also a way to expand your social circle (your friend invites their friend…you get the picture!).
- Be consistent. Join groups or organizations that meet on a regular basis. The more opportunities you have to hang out with someone, the greater the chance you have to deepen your connection and friendship with individuals.
- Learn how to initiate a conversation. Show people that you also have something interesting to share. Be confident in opening a conversation and encourage them to share too.
- Go ahead and just Put yourself out there. Join groups in which you share a common interest (mom, fitness, or healthy living groups for example), volunteer, attend a class, join a gym, use your kids or pets as a way to meet others, get online, travel, attend a retreat, etc. Doing things you enjoy will help connect you to others with similar interests, making it easier to find your next best gal pal!
Sometimes things just click, and friendships form without much effort. But in other cases it’s not that easy. Sometimes finding the right people and bonding over your love of fitness, business or travel takes time. The key is to be true to yourself, put yourself out there, be consistent, and patient. Ultimately it is up to you to make a choice to make a change. As I like to say, life is too damn short not to be having fun! And never forget, these friends you’d like to make are deep down just as likely scared as you are.
Yours for more confidence more often,
