8 Surefire Ways To Accept Criticism And Move On

HOW TO EFFECTIVELY
DEAL WITH HATERS

No matter what choices you make in life (people will judge you – good and bad – there’s no escaping it).

You might be eating healthy and exercising, yet someone in your life will still manage to exclaim that “Your too skinny, have too strict of a diet, and/or exercise too much.”

You might be pursuing your passion as a career, yet at some point you’ll hear from someone that “You’re never going to get anywhere in life with a career like that.”

You could be having the time of your life with some of your girlfriends, yet someone will inevitably say “Honey….stop acting absolutely ridiculous.”

Or maybe you have 3 children and are happily married, yet someone will say “She’s Crazy…..I’d never want her life!”

People will always have an opinion…that’s reality.

Criticism and judgment from others is usually rooted in those people’s own fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs.

For some, it’s easier to criticize, make fun of, and tear down others, than it is to look in the mirror and face their own inner demons; let alone make the necessary changes to improve their own lives.

For others, it’s a way to escape loneliness and feel connected to others in an unhealthy way.

Or, it might simply be a way to deal with their own feelings of intimidation and perceived threat of being less than everyone else.

Whatever the reason, being judged and criticized still hurts. Trust me I know

So what can you do when faced with a HATER?  Consider deploying one or more of my 8 favorite Hater Repellants below:

1. Practice Self-Love.

When you take the time to take care of yourself and do the things that bring you the greatest joy, you have little time to focus on what others think about you.  Love and accept yourself for who you are.

2. Be Compassionate.

People with a quick tongue….. that are negative and have lots of opinions about others, are typically not in a good place.  Be kind.

3. Forgive.

Instead of holding onto grudges and resentment towards others, forgive them.  Forgiveness is a way to release yourself from what has already been done, and it allows you to move forward.

4. Apologize.

If someone is truly coming out of left field (belittling you), attempting to embarrass you, or down right criticizing you out of pure jealousy or hate—by all means don’t apologize.  But if you feel you may be partially responsible for how they feel, it’s best to say “I’m sorry.”  A simple apology can go a long way.

5. Take A Look At Yourself.

Is there a reason why someone is judging you?  Take a good, honest, and unbiased look at yourself and see if there is anything you need to focus on and improve upon.

    1. Do you need to be kinder or more thoughtful to others?  Do you need to improve your skills?
    2. Do you need to focus more on your family or career? If you can improve on something based on their hurtful feedback…..learn from it and move on!

6. Don’t Be A People Pleaser.

Nobody wants to have enemies.  But please listen to me here—no matter how hard you try to put yourself in a more favorable light…..trying to please and win over others, you cannot control the way all people feel about you.  Trying to please everyone will do nothing more than to put you on the fast track to feelings of anxiety, unworthiness, and sadness.

For your own happiness, learn to feel good about what sets you apart and makes you different and unique from others. “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind” Dr. Seuss.

7. Focus On What’s Important.

Not all criticism deserves a response.  Instead of letting every sly or insulting comment distract or hold you back from what’s important, set your intentions and stay focused on your goals and aspirations that lie ahead.

8. Don’t Be A Hater Back.

It’s easy to want to get revenge and have a few choice words with those that hurt us the most, but sometimes it’s not worth it.  It usually just perpetuates more negativity and hurt feelings.  Don’t stoop to their level…break the cycle and move on.

Hope This Helps…
